DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Jordan Krywonos (Perimeter Institute)\n\nThe kinetic
Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (kSZ) effect arises from the scattering of cosmic mi
crowave background (CMB) photons off free electrons in bulk motion. In thi
s talk\, I will introduce the kSZ effect and the technique of kSZ velocity
reconstruction\, which allows us to map the large-scale velocity field of
the universe. I will highlight some of the intriguing aspects of this obs
ervable\, such as its ability to probe our past light cone. I will then di
scuss how kSZ velocity reconstruction can be used to test beyond-ΛCDM mod
 els\, including large-scale voids\, the intrinsic CMB dipole\, and local-t
ype primordial non-Gaussianity. (Hopefully this talk will be understandabl
e for folks not in cosmology!)\n\nhttps://events.perimeterinstitute.ca/eve
