nFirst\, I will argue how background independent QFT-based regularisation
methods can alleviate some important problems in quantum gravity.\nSecondl
y\, I will bring into closer contact the asymptotic safety (ASQG) and cano
nical (CQG) approach to quantum gravity. AS is a QFT-based approach to qua
ntum gravity\, which we will use to construct the generating functional of
the n-point correlation functions. In particular\, I will work with the L
orentzian version of the functional renormalisation group which we relate
to the reduced phase space formulation of CQG.\n\nhttps://events.perimeter
