Unconference Sessions

Unlike traditional conferences, an unconference is a participant-driven meeting that prioritizes informal discussions on topics of interest to the participants.  Sessions consist of discussions in small breakout groups.  The topics for discussion get proposed and voted on, and the schedule is made up on the spot from these suggestions. The organizers will group all the topics proposed into break-out sessions based on common themes. Even if you don’t want to lead a discussion, you can still submit a topic anonymously.

At Causalworlds, we will have two types of unconference sessions: (1) academic and (2) science and society.

Any and all topics pertinent to Causalworlds can be proposed for an academic break-out session. The following are some examples of topics that you might suggest:

  • What is the definition of causality?

  • Is there indefinite causal order?

  • How do we reconcile relativistic and information-theoretic notions of causality?

Any relevant topics can be proposed for a science and society break-out session. Examples include:

  • Topics relating to equity, diversity and inclusion in science

  • Hiring procedures and immigration issues

  • Science communication/teaching

Please think of one academic topic and/or one science and society topic that you would like to discuss prior to the event, and submit it on the Discord unconference channel by the day before the unconference!
